Pediatric Radiology CasesPathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease :

In about 30% of renal vein thromboses, one may find a V. cava thrombosis as well.

The cause is often multifactorial (perinatal acidosis, sepsis, heme concentration and thrombophilia).

     Pediatric Radiology CasesRadiological findings:

    Ultrasound 1 <- view Ultrasound 1

Ultrasound 1: Depiction of a echogenic structure in the area of the middle vena cava inferior in about the level of the renal vein junction. The increased echogenicity of the thrombus shows us that the clot is at least 7 days old.

    Ultrasound 2 <- view Ultrasound 2

Ultrasound 2: In the colored doppler, the vena cava inferior shows that the intrahepatic part has freely flowing blood through it.

IVC Thrombosis with Renal Vein Thrombosis (RVT) in a Newborn:  Renal thrombosis
    (ANUREKHA | 27.01.09)

New born baby is suffering renal thrombosis, is there any treatment, if so mail the centers at Bangalore/India.

re: IVC Thrombosis with Renal Vein Thrombosis (RVT) in a Newborn:  Renal thrombosis
      (PedRad | 10.02.09)

      Consult from outside:
Renal Vein Thrombosis (RVT) is a disease of mainly Pediatric interest.
There is a variability of treatment strategies for neonates with RVT. Outcomes of the affected kidneys are still unsatisfactory for the majority of the cases. A baby with RTV may have received only a supportive therapy, a heparin or fibrinolytic treatment. It's rare to receive a combination therapy.
Some of the patients will demand a renal transplantation.
Most of the affected kidneys have a permanent damage and almost 20% of them will grow an arterial blood hypertension.

      I hope this helped
