 | Pathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease : | The cyst's walls are lined with a one-layered mucin producing cubic to cylindrical epithelium, which is similar to an endocervical epithelium. In certain areas, this epithelium is somewhat flatter, the cytoplasm is more eosinophilic. Papillary proliferations are not seen, nor are nuclear abnormalities, nor are mitotic activities. The epithelium is lost in clusters; it is replaced by macrophages which store ceroid. Many times, one can find calcifications in the relatively thin tissue of the cyst wall, which can lead to sclerosis. The surrounding tissue of the ovary is edematous, and one finds primordial follicles in the periphery, next to secondary and tertiary follicles. Tissue hemorrhages in clusters. | |
