     Pediatric Radiology CasesHistory:

15 year-old boy after a cranial trauma. No symptoms. Chance findings in a cranial X-ray (done here to rule out fracture).

Pediatric Radiology CasesPathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease :

Diploic veins, which become more prominent with increasing age.

The different expression of the impressions left by the veins are not always explainable.

     Pediatric Radiology CasesRadiological findings:

    X-Ray 1 <- view X-Ray 1

X-Ray 1: Linear frontal radiolucent line, slight sclerosis of the wall (in contrast to the fracture lines). Dicotonic branching which is typical for vasculature.

Veins also can flow together in a star-shaped pattern.

In an obvious difference in the diploic veins of either side, one must take an intracranial angioma as a differential diagnosis into consideration (if there is an increase of venous flow).

Vessel Furrows of the Cranial Vault (predominantly frontal):  Growing fratcures
    (Wael Nemattalla | 26.04.09)

In growing vault fractures [leptomeningeal cyst] the serial increase in width of fracture line in skull radiographs is significant.
In sinus pericranii: vessels crossing the diploe with prominent both subcutaneous vessels and dural sinuses; usually in a localized pattern.

Vessel Furrows of the Cranial Vault (predominantly frontal):  About vault fractures
      (Wael Nemattalla | 26.04.09)

In vault fractures: fracture lines are straight, usually non-branching, more radiolucent than vascular grooves with no surrounding sclerosis.
