Premature infant, born in the 34th gestational week with respiratory adaptational disturbances postnatally. No spitting up. Because of respiratory insufficiency, CPAP intubation was done.  

Inherent defect.
The radiological signs: Blind sack and air in the stomach are typical of an upper esophageal blind sack and a lower esophageal-tracheal fistula. Esophageal atresia type IIIb (Vogt).

The pediatic surgical correction is mostly successful. The success, or rather the difficulty of the operation, is dependant on the distance of the upper blind sack to the distal end of the esophagus (as well as the size of the esophageal-tracheal fistula).
It is important to search for other congenital abnormalities, i.e. anal atresia, before surgical correction.
