     Pediatric Radiology CasesHistory:

13 year-old girl with stomach aches. In the sonographic examination, a lower abdominal tumor was found. No other noticeable clinical signs.

Pediatric Radiology CasesPathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease :

The cyst's walls are lined with a one-layered mucin producing cubic to cylindrical epithelium, which is similar to an endocervical epithelium. In certain areas, this epithelium is somewhat flatter, the cytoplasm is more eosinophilic. Papillary proliferations are not seen, nor are nuclear abnormalities, nor are mitotic activities. The epithelium is lost in clusters; it is replaced by macrophages which store ceroid. Many times, one can find calcifications in the relatively thin tissue of the cyst wall, which can lead to sclerosis. The surrounding tissue of the ovary is edematous, and one finds primordial follicles in the periphery, next to secondary and tertiary follicles. Tissue hemorrhages in clusters.

     Pediatric Radiology CasesRadiological findings:

    MRI 1 <- view MRI 1

MRI 1: T2 weighted TSE : transversal : large, predominantly cystic, septated mass of the right ovary. The left ovary is normal.

MRI 2: T2 weighted TSE : transversal : large, predominantly cystic, septated mass of the right ovary

    MRI 3 <- view MRI 3

MRI 3: T2 weighted TSE: coronal: large, predominantly cystic, septated mass of the right ovary. The left ovary is normal.

    MRI 4 <- view MRI 4

MRI 4: T2 weighted TSE: sagittal: large, predominantly cystic, septated mass of the right ovary

    MRI 5 <- view MRI 5

MRI 5: T1 weighted SE: transversal: after contrast administration: slight enhancement in the septations.

    MRI 6 <- view MRI 6

MRI 6: T1 weighted SE with fat saturation : transversal: after contrast administration: slight enhancement in the septations.

    MRI 7 <- view MRI 7

MRI 7: T1 weighted TSE : transversal : large, predominantly cystic, septated mass of the right ovary. The left ovary is normal. After contrast administration: slight enhancement in the septations.
