     Pediatric Radiology CasesHistory:

16 year-old female patient with complaints in the lower right abdominal quadrant.

Pediatric Radiology CasesPathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease :

Crohn's disease is an unspecific, granulomatous inflammation of all intestinal wall layers, which can strike all segments of the digestive system. In 40% of the cases, this occurs solely in the terminal ileum.

     Pediatric Radiology CasesRadiological findings:

    Ultrasound 1 <- view Ultrasound 1

Ultrasound 1: Terminal Ileum, longitudinal: Obvious thickening intestinal wall with so-called "cobblestone mucosa" with almost closed intestinal lumen as the sonographic correlate of the edematous-fibrous-lymphangiectically changed intestinal wall. Ulcerations lie between.

     Pediatric Radiology CasesDiagnosis confirmation:

    Surgery / Histo

Pediatric Radiology CasesWhich DD would be also possible with the radiological findings:

Colitis ulcerosa, acute or chronic enteritis, Purpura Schönlein-Hennoch, GvH-reaction of the intestines

Pediatric Radiology CasesCourse / Prognosis / Frequency / Other :

The begin of the illness is mostly around the 12th year. There is a tendency of intestinal stenosis and fistula formation of the ulcerations in the area; abscess and conglomerate tumor formation.

Today, the conservative/medicinal treatment is used until presence of non-controlling complications.
The possible necessary intestinal resections should be done as conservatively as possible.
